P’s moving up day

Last Friday, 17 March 2006, was P’s Moving Up Day. I never knew what this meant until it was my child’s turn. Apparently, it means that the child will be “moving up” to another level (hahaha, so easy, call me stupid!) of schooling.

Their theme for this last quarter was sports. So the program was more of a sports fest than any other. Prior to that, the children were given “awards”. P got the “Mr. Musician” award for his “wide knowledge of musical instruments”. Some of the other kids got “Mr. Inspector”, “Ms. Teacher’s Assistant”, “Ms. Speaker of the House”, etc.

Afterwards, they kids came out to sing two songs to show how much they love their parents. (Yes, yes, yes, for the life of me, I forgot to bring tissue. It was so difficult to stop the tears AND the runny nose! Good thing I sat beside J, who was, in her past life, a girl scout. Hahahaha! Boy, and it was so difficult taking a video and trying not to sniff out loud at the same time.) They sang Umagang Kay Ganda (The Morning is so Beautiful) and I Will (by Ben Taylor/The Beatles/Alison Krause).

The children showed what they learned in yoga. Maybe one day, P can join his Ninong Tris at his studio. (Check out Bikram Yoga Manila.)

The following part were still song numbers in preparation for their sports fest. They did Queen‘s We Will Rock You and Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger. It was so cute to see all the children doing their dance moves! (We later found out that EVERYTHING in their program were all the children’s ideas–refined by the teachers!!! I so love Explorations, really!)

(look at Paul go!)

S and I were so happy that P acutally did all the actions required of him! Finally!!! He’s not one for programs with big audiences, really.

The kids were so revved up for the sportsfest. They were halved into two groups, Team Beckham (of David Beckham fame) and Team Paquiao (of Manny Paquiao fame). Paul was on Beckham. They began with a pledge (“I will play fair”, etc. etc.) then off to the field. They first played soccer, then tug-of-war.

It was so funny because all the parents were cheering their children on. The kids played their best, and they even had their own cheers!

It was a really fun day. I hope that P will have as much fun as he has had in Explorations when he goes to Xavier. I can’t wait for Kevin to go to Explorations too! =)

UMAGANG KAY GANDA

Halika na pumikit limutin ang problema (Come,
close your eyes, forget your problems
)
Hihintayin ang umaga (Waiting for the morning)
Magpahinga, panaginip ang ikaliligaya (Rest, dreams will make you happy)
Darating din ang umaga (The morning will come)

Basta’t tayo’y magkasama (As long as we’re together)
Laging mayro’ng umagang kay ganda (There will be a beautiful morning)
Pagsikat ng araw (When the sun rises)
May dalang liwanag (That brings sunshine with it)
Sa ating pangarap, ooh… haharapin natin (haharapin natin) (For our dreams,
ooh…we’ll face it
)

Ang sikat ng araw (the sunshine)
Na may dalang liwanag (that brings brightness)

(sung by Tillie Moreno and Ray-An Fuentes *years ago*!)

I WILL

Who knows how long I’ve loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to–I will.
For if I ever saw you
I didn’t catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same.
Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we’re together
Love you when we’re apart.
And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
You know I will
I will.

(sung by The Beatles, Ben Taylor and Alison Krause)

Jen, I love this post!. Our daughter will be “moving up” in May and she will have a similar celebration. I didn’t know they did that either. But, I can’t wait!.

By the way, I just saw your pictures from the wedding. Oh my!!. They are gorgeous!!!!! You are so good at what you do. Seriously. They were great!. We are back in the States now. Just got back from Russia last night. We will have to wait now for them to call us for the “invite” for our actual court date to adopt our new son. In the mean time, we are enjoying being home with the girls. Look forward to talking to you soon!!
