Music on the Run

When I run (again, I can never thank Lululemon enough), I like listening to music — only because it keeps my mind off the distance. I used to listen to music on my mobile –
And don’t get me wrong, it was great, except that I felt I had to hold it in the palm of my hand the whole time (it was jangling from the running so I can’t keep it in my pocket (and some of my shorts don’t have a pocket at all). I had more than 101 songs there, plus so much more information (SMS, pictures, etc).

But when S got this —

–and when I tried it, I never went back (and he never saw it again…).

This Philips Go Gear MP3 player is quite cool. It not only has FM radio, it can record too! (Have to figure that part out if I want to use it.) I’m using it mainly as a music player when I run. And since then I have listened to so many nice new songs!!

My Most Favorite Song NOW

Pink has always been my favorite color—not favorite like I’d be like Elle Woods, but favorite like I’d like some of my gadgets to be in pink.  Like, I would have wanted Daisy in a pink skin (but S wouldn’t like that at all).

I’ve been looking for this song for nearly a year now, and I was so happy to find it!!  And to my surprise, it’s called PINK LIFE!

Pink Life

I’m searching for a day of simple life
I’m on the clouds, the sky is blue
Watch the stars falling around at night
My dream, your dream, dreams come true
Try and hide

INXS – Afterglow

I sooooo love this song now. Check this out!

Here i am
Lost in the light of the moon
That comes through my window
Bathed in blue
The walls of my memory
Divides the thorns from the roses
It’s you and the roses
Touch me and i will follow
In your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As i let you go
I will find my way
When i see your eyes
Now i’m living
In your afterglow
Here i am
Lost in the ashes of time
But who owns tomorrow
In between
The longing to hold you again
I’m caught in your shadow
I’m losing control
My mind drifts away
We only have today
Touch me and i will follow
In your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As i let you go
I will find my way
I will sacrifice
Till that blinding day
When i see your eyes
Now i’m living
In your afterglow
When the veils are gone
As i let you go
As i let you go
Touch me and i will follow
In your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As i let you go
I will find my way
I will sacrifice
Now i’m living
In your afterglow
Bathed in blue
The walls of my memory
Divides the thorns from the roses
It’s you who is closest

Listening to Songs…

…stir up some strange memories.

Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling Ka

Unti-unting tumitila

(Oooohhh)

He’s not handsome or anything, but I swear, I have always had a (secret) thing for Ely Buendia. Hahahahaha! Loved him since the Eraserheads!

Was just listening to Tuwing Umuulan at Kasama Ka (a remake they did of a Basil Valdez song) and remembered the one and only time we went to watch them perform at UP’s Sunken Garden one cool -ber night.

We caught the Cutterpillow concert with a friend of S’s from Law School. It was one of the most fun concerts we’ve ever attended!!

Blasphemous Rumors (Depeche Mode)

Girl of sixteen, whole life ahead of her
Slashed her wrists, bored with life
Didn’t succeed, thank the Lord
For small merciesFighting back the tears, mother reads the note again
Sixteen candles burn in her mind
She takes the blame, it’s always the same
She goes down on her knees and prays

I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumours
But I think that God’s got a sick sense of humor
And when I die I expect to find Him laughing

Girl of eighteen, fell in love with everything
Found new life in Jesus Christ
Hit by a car, ended up
On a life support machine

Summer’s day, as she passed away
Birds were singing in the summer sky
Then came the rain, and once again
A tear fell from her mother’s eye

I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumours
But I think that God’s got a sick sense of humor
And when I die I expect to find Him laughing

Ssss….

Oooh, what angst!!! This is so reflective of the 80s.

When we were in grade school, a friend had moved to another country and was terribly lonely there. When she began writing us letters with these lyrics, my other friend and I (who were left here) would panic. That was so many years back. It’s a whole different picture now. =)

Here’s a song that I heard in the past few years, which I really really like:

Affirmation (Savage Garden)

I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people’s hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it’s bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I’m loved when I’m completely by myself alone

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can’t appreciate real love ’til you’ve been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye

I believe you can’t control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can’t appreciate real love ’til you’ve been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye

I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can’t appreciate real love ’til you’ve been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye

Read it slowly. The thoughts you could pick up are quite interesting!

Long Live the Eheads

I’ve finally come around to getting the album (actually S got this for me).

And even though there have been mixed reviews (check here and here), I personally love the album. S says it’s because the artists do not sound very different from the way the Eraserheads sounded. (i.e., if it were too far out like Shonen Knife doing the Carpenters‘ Top of the World from If I Were a Carpenter, we may not have liked it — but I liked that as well, I actually have a copy of the album which is missing!)

Made me recall the university days! S and I even watched one of their concerts at the UP Sunken Garden. I also remember sending a copy of ultraelectromagneticpop the CD to a my best friend in Canada (and at that time, she had already been living there for less than 10 years). When she received it and played it, she just had to call and say, “What’s that album you sent me?!?!?!” Hahahaha, she must have turned Canadian. It was blasphemy for me that she actually wondered about why I sent her the album. Of course it was because I totally loved the Eheads that I wanted to share their music with her!!

Several blogs I’ve read called Paolo SantosMagasin heretical, to say the least. But then the lyrics to Magasin were just so funny that I overlooked it.

Loved the rendition of Rico J Puno of El Bimbo, and Barbie AlmalbisOverdrive and 6 Cycle Mind doing Alapaap.

The Eheads really rock! Long live the Eheads!
